Now Hiring: Farmers Market Coordinator

Healthy Harvest works to connect and educate in support of the local food system. This is a joint position between Healthy Harvest of North Iowa (HHNI) and Clear Lake Farmers Market (CLFM).

Project Dates: ASAP – December, 31  2024 (potential for extension)

Status: Part-time, annual contract, approx 50-80 hours per month.

Location: Near Clear Lake, remote (work from home and attendance at some in-person events)

For HHNI the contractor will develop and expand programming at regional Farmers Markets (within our nine county region) such as Double Up Food Bucks, Market Metrics, and The Power of Produce (POP) Club or other youth engagement programs. In addition the contractor will provide technical support to farmers’ market leaders and producers including, but not limited to, the Annual North Iowa Farmers Market Workshop and community outreach efforts such as cooking demos, classes, events, etc. with the Blender Bike and/or Charlie Cart – mobile kitchen. 

For CLFM the contractor will work closely with the Market Board and onsite Market Manager but will not be responsible for attending the market each week. Instead the contractor will be responsible for the behind the scenes coordination and planning including, but not limited to, vendor recruitment and management, promotion/customer awareness, and fundraising.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience managing or vending at a farmers markets, preferred
  • Strong communication skills (Written/Verbal)
  • Computer skills (Basic website, Microsoft Suite, Basic graphic design – Canva, GoogleDrive)
  • Knowledge of Social Media (Facebook, Instagram)
  • Organized, self-starter
  • Strong time management
  • Accountable

Independent Contractor Status: This position will be acting as an independent contractor of Healthy Harvest of North Iowa and not as an employee. Contractors are expected to provide their own equipment (i.e. computer, printer) and transportation. The Contractor should understand that no employment benefits (retirement, insurance, etc.) result from this position, and she/he is responsible for her/his own self-employed tax liability. The Contractor shall be free to set her own work hours and appointments, and conduct the work as she/he sees fit in order to fulfill the project goals and objectives as stated above.
