The North Iowa Local Food Coalition serves as a broad based effort to help identify and connect relationships, technical, business, and communication assets of local and regional food system development.

Vision Statement

It is our vision that locally produced food is a key resource in keeping our communities vital and healthy.

Purpose

The purpose of the NI Food Coalition is to convene partners who have common and overlapping interests and to establish connections and collaboration where our missions meet.

Top Priority Projects:

  • Supply Chain: Michael Mahaffey, Cindy Richardson, Opportunity Village (Chair)
  • Branding: Marie Boyd, Healthy Harvest Special Project Manager (Chair)
  • Incubator Gardens/Farms: Angie Determan, Blue Zone Project of Mason City, John Sjolinder, ISU Extension, Cerro Gordo County (Co-Chair)
  • Farmers Market Support: Marie Boyd, Healthy Harvest Special Project Manager (Chair)

The Coalition meets quarterly, is coordinated by Healthy Harvest of North Iowa, and is a participant in the Iowa State University Community Food System Program, working with Courtney Long.
